What Is The Best Carpet To Buy For My Home?

New Carpeting Sales InstallationThis is an in-depth question with lots of variables but for simplicity lets look at of the 2 most popular carpet fibers: nylon and polyester.

Nylon fiber carpeting is by far the most durable, and will bounce back time after time. Nylon is a synthetically made product from petroleum, which really started to take off in the 80’s. In addition to being very resilient, it cleans very easy and has low static levels. You will pay more for this type of carpeting, but it’s well worth the extra cost.

Polyester fiber carpeting has a great green story. Almost all polyester carpeting is made from recycled bottles from landfills, its then melted and turned into carpet fiber. Polyester fibers are dyed during the melted state, therefore the process puts the color into the molecular structure! So what does that mean? It means it is extremely colorfast, even in strong sunlight. It’s very stain resistant, cleans well and is free from static. The drawbacks are that it’s not as durable as nylon, it does not have same bounce back, and oily spills can take a few cleanings to get completely removed.
